Breathtaking Views, Exceptional Startups, Produce vs Consume, Earth's Mid-Life Crisis, Callings Feel Effortless
Yo, it’s Luke!
Got some excited news: I started working with Julian Shapiro, a long time idol of mine. I even tweeted 1.5 yrs ago that my dream internship was to be his right hand man. Pretty crazy! Wanna know how I got it? By being a permissionless apprentice.
That said, here is your weekly dose of 5 noteworthy ideas & things I learned about last week. Click on each link to dive further on that topic.
If you’re like me and love experiencing moments of pure “awe”, this post is a goldmine.
Some of my favorites (that may turn into future adventures):
The great migration of wildebeest in Kenya.
The rolling sand dunes in The Empty Quarter, golden red from the sunset.
Every river turn while hiking the Narrows in Zion National Park as the morning light hit the rocks.
If you’re professionally ambitious & young, mid-sized companies with growth are the best places to work.
Early stage companies require a lot of conviction in the mission & founders (since it’s very risky). Meanwhile, later stage companies make it difficult to scale the career ladder.
Mid-sized companies w/ growth are the perfect medium ground.
You learn a ton, can make good money (w/ upside), and have a ton of future optionality.
The hard part is finding those companies.
Well, until now. I found this list that does the work for you. It’s got 130 companies doing $5M+ in revenue with 100% YoY growth.
Worth a peek!
3. Something I Can’t Stop Thinking About
Consuming and producing fight for the same resources.
Talking and doing also fight for the same resources.
Choose wisely.
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old and is expected to be swallowed by the sun in about 5 billion years, when Earth is 9.5 billion years old.
If we make 100 million years one "Earth year," then the planet is currently 45 (out of a 95-year life).
Humans are Earth's mid-life crisis.
“When something is really right for you, it makes you feel completely at ease. This is why it is so easy to overlook our true purpose, our best skills, our soulmates even when they are right in front of us. It will be effortless, even though it is work.”
It makes ya think, “Is my calling right in front of my face?”
If it is, your friends or family might be able to see through the mist. Ask them “what have I always been good at or loved doing?” or “what do you think I am uniquely suited to do?”
Might lead you down an interesting path! It certainly has for me.
Thanks for wanting to know more today than you did yesterday! If you liked this edition, send it over to a friend who would like it too 🤝
