34: Notes To Self

Aztec Architecture, Hero vs Coward, Unexpected Gifts, Iraq's History, Make Death Tremble

Yo, it’s Luke!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the golden middle ground of post-grad jobs for entrepreneurial college kids. Might cook up a blog post because I think most people do it wrong.

That said, here is your weekly dose of 5 noteworthy ideas & things I learned about last week. Click on each link to dive further on that topic.

1. Aztec Architecture Was Shweet

I mean c’mon. Imagine waking up every day to this massive structure. Ridiculous!

2. 15 yr old Mike Tyson Cried Before the Fight, Then Won by First-Round Knockout

“The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his or her fear, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters." - Cus D'Amato (Tyson’s coach)

Noted.

This one’s a lovely read. Here’s my favorite excerpt:

“Do not mistake planning for purpose, or activity for action.

Attend to the ordinary and the mundane with care and with gratitude.

Consider that rest is not a time set aside, but a spirit brought to every time.

Refuse the ever-present temptation to control and manage the thing we call life for their is no surer way to miss it.”

If this ain’t it, I don’t know what is.

In case you didn’t know, ancient Iraqi history is epic:

  • Called the "cradle of civilization"

  • Housed Mesopotamia (birthplace of writing, 1st wheel, 1st calendars, 1st schools, 1st hour / minute, 1st maps)

  • Housed Babylon (Alexander the Great's capital)

  • Where Islam started

  • Housed The Garden of Eden (home of Adam & Eve and first humans according to Jews, Christians, & Muslims)

  • Housed Ur (birthplace of Abraham)

Also if you’re a history nerd, this is easily worth the read.

5. Quote I Like

“We’re here to laugh at the odds, and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” - Charles Bukowski
