41: Notes To Self

Life Update, Thought Patterns, Founding Fathers' Ages, Specific Ambition, Sci-Fi Stories, Math & The Modern World

Yo, it’s Luke!

Long time no see. I’ve got some good links for you (& exciting life updates)!

Quick Life Update

Spent 10 weeks as a Camp Counselor at Camp Chippewa. It was one of those places that has that secret magic sauce. I’ll figure out a way to return soon!

After that, I went on a family vacation to Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Highly recommend doing scramble hikes in Acadia National Park and checking out the nearby towns (like Camden, ME). Fun fact, Acadia was donated by the Rockefeller Family!

And in a few hours, I’m hopping on a one-way plane to San Francisco. Living with Erik Torenberg for a month and helping him grow the Turpentine Network.

As you might expect, I’m stoked about it!!

Now, let’s get to good stuff. Click on each link to dive further on that topic.

1. Gonna Print This One Out

2. Give Me Term Limits or Give Me Death!

3. Specific Ambition FTW (Anu Atluru)

This gets more true the more I ponder on it (especially looking back at times I felt particularly worried / anxious).

Stumbled across this site after finishing all of Andy Weir’s books (he wrote The Martian).

There’s 12 great short stories that are only 5-10 minute reads. Plus, a handful of other great longer stories.

100% worth checking out.

Most people think the Scientific Revolution (ex: Newton’s & Galileo’s discoveries) led to the Industrial Revolution and society as we see it today.

This one convinced me that it was really fueled by measure & calculation. For example…

  • Artists began using linear perspective and mathematicians learned to use derivatives.

  • Financiers started joint stock corporations and ships navigated the open seas.

  • Fiscally powerful states were conducting warfare on a global scale.

It’s a fun read if you like math & history.

Thanks for wanting to know more today than you did yesterday! If you liked this edition, send it over to a friend who would like it too 🤝

Cheers,
